Rural Belize Resident Accused of Burglary and Threats Denied Bail
A resident of Rural Belize is spending his first night at the big house after being accused of breaking into his ex-partner’s home and stealing from her son. On Sunday, 49-year-old Milton Reyes reportedly burglarized a home in Maskall Village, threatened his ex-stepson Jose Gonzalez, and made off with items belonging to Gonalez. This morning, Reyes was arraigned on a single charge of burglary to which he pled not guilty. Reyes told the court that Gonzalez attended his hearing to withdraw the charge. However, Gonzalez took the stand and informed the court that wanted a restraining order against Reyes, who made threats against his life. The prosecutor then objected to bail and explained that Gonzalez was fearful. The court also asked Reyes for a reason he should be granted bail and he claimed that Gonzalez was the aggressor and fabricated the event. Reyes also claimed to have still been in relation with Gonzalez’s mother, who lives a stone’s throw from him. However, he was denied bail and remanded to prison until October 30.
