Saldivar Criticizes Belmopan’s Current Representative for “Poor Performance”

Ralston Frazer was not the only one that came under some criticism by John Saldivar.  The current Area Representative, Oscar Mira was also criticized for his lacking performance for the residents of Belmopan.  According to Saldivar, Mira’s popularity has dwindled rapidly and that he (Mira) has only managed to lookout for those in his immediate circle.

John Saldivar, Belmopan Area Representative: “From what I’m hearing on the street people are not satisfied at all in his performance. From early on it became obvious that he was aside from the people of Belmopan and not really involved with them and more about himself and the people that are close to him, that’s the word that I get out there and I think that’s gonna prove true when election comes that people feel betrayed first of all, they feel left out, the feel that he has not been dealing with their needs as properly as he should and of course when you have the record of John Saldivar from the previous thirteen years in government where we were servicing the people, servicing their needs, developing the city, taking care of the streets, we built over 130 streets during my tenure I think Belmopan people are now missing that. And so they’re gonna let that be known come Election Day. When you’re in government and you’re in power and you control the resources of the government it’s difficult to do all that you had promised to do and so it’s only downhill after that. That was the same with me most of the time in my seventeen years you get to the top and from there you start coming down. You get unpopular and I think it has just happened very fast for Mr.MIra and the people are very dissatisfied.”

As it relates to the business of Belmopan, John Saldivar says the voters and residents know him and will have no problem electing him into office come the next general election.

John Saldivar, Belmopan Area Representative: “I believe the people of Belmopan know who I am. They know what I stand for and know that I am not what has been painted and that proved through in the convention when people thought that I was done for. People thought that that was the end of me but the people of Belmopan gave me that go ahead again, gave me that approval because they know me and that is also gonna prove true in the general election because people of Belmopan know John Saldivar. I have been here almost born here. I came here when I was three years old, have live here, gone to school here, know every neighborhood, know a lot of people and they know me. So I am not gonna walk away until I am good and ready or until the people of Belmopan say John it’s time for you to move on and that hasn’t come yet.”

Reporter: So if you are to lose this general election would you consider that as the people telling you to stand down ?
John Saldivar, Belmopan Area Representative: “It would have to be a strong message that I would have to take good consideration of but as in politics it has to do with how you win and how you lose. If it’s a close election and you lose by a vote or ten votes or so you would have to say that that has been a good comeback and if it’s a good comeback then why would you walk away? But certainly I would have to consider seriously retirement if I don’t win this one.”

We will have more from Saldivar and Frazer in upcoming newscasts.
