January, 2019 has seen ten men and one woman murdered with the most recent occurring yesterday evening. Investigators were called out to a murder scene at mile four and a half on the George Price Highway. Employees of the Belize Marine and Mooring Services, were embroiled in an altercation. Elmer Salazar, a Guatemalan National, had recently left his home on Antelope Street Extension and arrived at the marina where he got into a fight. His co-worker, identified as Efrain Baltazar Martinez allegedly chopped him several times.
Salazar was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival. Elmer Salazar was 43 years old. Beltran fled the scene shortly after the murder in Salazar’s green Mazda pickup. The pickup was found abandoned shortly after on Central American Boulevard. The police department is on high alert for the detention of 54-year-old Efrain Baltazar Martinez, a Salvadoran National, who is wanted for Salazar’s murder.
