Eight hundred families will receive Christmas hampers through the kind donation of the Salvation Army, which handed over the hampers simultaneously at three locations in Belize City. This initiative is an annual event which has been occurring for over one hundred years. Love News visited their headquarters on the Regent Street and observed many heads of households receiving the hampers. Major Joliker Leandre, Regional Commander at the Salvation Army spoke about the initiative.
“People of Belize have supported this event greatly and so it is a locally sponsored event yearly and the items are various items, you have rice and beans, oil, flour, milk, choco and every single thing that they would need to have a proper meal for the Christmas period. The kettle itself has been very slow but we are not concerned because we know that every year God has always provided for us as the bible ‘faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.’ So every year this is something that we do and regardless of what the income might be the target remains the same.”
Leandre said that the Salvation Army is located in one hundred twenty-eight countries and they are mandated to meet people’s spiritual needs as well as their physical needs.
