San Ignacio Woman Assaulted and Robbed on Way to School

A San Ignacio woman was assaulted and robbed while on her way to school on Thursday. The twenty-year-old victim told police that the incident occurred while she was waiting to catch a bus to the University of Belize. She said that around five in the morning, she was walking and noticed a man in a gray hoody walking behind her. She said she didn’t pay him any mind because he did not look suspicious and later went down another street. When she arrived at the area where she normally waits for the bus, the man came up from behind and grabbed her, then put a sharp object to her neck. He stole her cellphone valued at twelve hundred dollars, and ran off, leaving his slippers behind. Police are investigating.
