Residents and visitors in San Pedro now have a new space dedicated to culture and commerce following the official opening of the San Pedro Artisans Market on Nurse Shark Street. The modern facility is designed to provide local artisans and vendors with a proper, organized place to operate while showcasing Belizean creativity and craftsmanship. The project aims to strengthen small businesses and expand opportunities for local entrepreneurs who depend on tourism for their livelihoods. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister of Tourism, Youth, Sports and Diaspora Relations Anthony Mahler, Belize Rural South Area Representative Andre Perez, Mayor Gualberto “Wally” Nuñez, Chief Executive Officer Nicole Usher, and members of the Belize Tourism Board leadership team. Following the ribbon-cutting, officials conducted a walkthrough of the market and interacted with vendors. According to organizers, the market will not only support local vendors but also improve the visitor experience by offering tourists a welcoming space where they can connect directly with authentic Belizean handmade products. Tourism officials say the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to diversify attractions on Ambergris Caye and ensure that more economic benefits from tourism remain within the local community.
