San Pedro residents have come together to voice their concerns as it relates to the current State of Emergency imposed on the island of Ambergris Caye. Over the weekend the concerned residents formed a movement group called Change for San Pedro. Today we spoke with the organizers of the group who told us that they decided to begin the group after having receiving several complaints from residents.

“Like a few hours later she added me to a group chat and everybody knows I hate group chats but I told her I was leaving the group chat and if she wanted to continue organizing something I would create like an actual Facebook group and she could add the people she wanted to help organize. The next day when I woke up there were like six hundred something members and everybody was like “We want change in San Pedro.” and “We’re putting flags up to protest.” and it was a good thing because originally a lot of the people wanted to protest physically but Candice and I kind of said let’s do it online and other members in the group also said no let’s try this first and see if we get any attention and so here we are. Now we’re at a thousand plus members and we’re all yes maybe not everybody agrees on every single point but we do all agree that we want change for the betterment of San Pedro.”

In a press release the movement listed their 7 recommendations made to the government. The first recommendation had to do with a change in curfew from the existing 8:00PM – 5:00AM curfew to 9:00PM – 5:00AM. According to the movement this will allow business an opportunity to earn revenue.

According to the organizers all the members of Change for San Pedro are asking for the GOB to publicly address their concerns.
