A 47-year-old teacher from San Pedro Town has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment after being convicted of two of three counts of sexual assault involving students under his care.  Alex Jason Noralez, a resident of Barracuda Street in the Boca Del Rio area of San Pedro, was sentenced today following his conviction for sexually assaulting two second-form students in incidents that occurred in January 2024.  Noralez was acquitted of a third count of sexual assault involving a first-form student, after the court expressed doubts regarding that particular allegation.  The verdict was handed down last Wednesday, January 21, at the conclusion of a trial held before a San Pedro Magistrate.

During the proceedings, Noralez maintained his innocence, admitting only that he had hugged the students, which he claimed were innocent and non-sexual in nature.  The court, however, found sufficient evidence to convict him on two counts of sexual assault. He was sentenced to two separate 18-month prison terms, but the Magistrate ordered that the sentences run concurrently, meaning Noralez will serve 18 months in prison.  Noralez was represented by Attorney Ronell Gonzalez. This is his first conviction for a sexual assault offense
