The San Pedro Tertiary Hospital is coming along smoothly, according to Belize Rural South Area Representative Andre Perez. In March, the government broke ground for the state-of-the-art facility through funding from the Republic of China (Taiwan). The facility aims to provide residents of La Isla Bonita and Caye Caulker with greater access to healthcare in their backyard and reduce the time they spend traveling for medical care. Today, Perez provided an update on the hospital’s construction.

Andre Perez, Minister of Blue Economy: “I believe of course the work has started, the piles are being driven in and I think they’re doing an average of 15 piles per day and a total of 198 piles will be driven. So everything is set, the construction has started and everything is on pace right now that we’re setting that crossing our fingers that it’s going to last thirty six months. Yes it’s ongoing and every now and again we do an inspection and of course the contractor is keeping me abreast so we’re very excited about that one.”
The hospital is expected to be completed in the next three years.
