San Pedro Town Council Bans Golf Carts from Water Taxis and Airstrip

The San Pedro Town Council is being criticized after it implemented a policy on the island, banning golf carts from the water taxis and the airstrip.  Earlier this week, Police officers on the island arrested the driver of a golf cart for going against the policy.  Attorney Orson Elrington spoke out the situation, calling the town council ignorant, as such a policy would have to be gazetted.

Orson Elrington, Attorney at Law: “Apparently the San Pedro town council issued a public notice yesterday in which they claim that they are enforcing restrictions for golf cart rentals at ports of entries being water taxi and air strips. The San Pedro Police Department went on to not only attempt to enforce something which did not have the weight of the law but illegally and lawfully detained a client of mine and subjected him to false imprisonment. That was compounded by apparently some Inspector Serrano who instructed the police that they could arrest persons for violating this notice. Now this notice has no footing in law. For you to even make an error prohibited it must go through a legal process. It must be including being gazetted, even the most novice person can tell you that nobody gets arrested for parking in prohibited areas. That is not a criminal offense. My free advice is to the people of San Pedro to get a new town council. Luckily March of next year is coming up and they have the ability to get a new town council because this one is absolutely atrocious. That is my advice. And my free legal advice to them is to start looking for new jobs.”
