School Bus Stranded Near Waterway in Corozal

A school bus transporting students from Cayo Duck Run II became stranded late this morning following an incident near Pueblo Nuevo in Corozal. The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. when the bus became stuck in a precarious position along the roadway, close to a body of water. The situation raised concerns that the bus could have continued sliding toward the water, creating a potentially dangerous scenario. According to our Love news correspondent from Corozal, Vince Martinez the incident resulted in significant traffic disruptions, with a long line of vehicles forming as commuters waited for the roadway to be cleared.

Vince Martinez, Love News Correspondent: “Known area by Pueblo Nuevo where the road has been in dire condition due to the amount of water that has been piling up here and we know that the past few days have been raining and now the road is in very very very steep condition. And as you can see the mud and everything here is very very thick and the vehicles that come here are coming on a risk right but today a school bus was coming all the from a Duck Run II in Cayo on a school trip where they unfortunately got caught on the edge of the road and the back wheel on the left side of the bus gave into the mud and slipped into the water and now as you can see the edge of the bus is barely tipping over and everybody had to be evacuated from the bus and they’re now standing on the other side of the road and as you can see some of the students are still in their uniform with their parents patiently waiting for the issue to be fixed. Now, attempts have already been made by the bulldozer out here with some chains that unfortunately have not succeeded and they’re waiting on the key from another excavator that’s located nearby for them to make another attempt at removing the bus.”

Students and teachers affected by the incident said there was little they could do but remain patient while assistance was arranged. Approximately two hours later, a replacement bus arrived and transported them from the area. No injuries were reported. However, the incident has renewed concerns about road conditions and transportation safety, particularly during periods of adverse weather, which can make some roadways hazardous for commuters and school buses alike.
