Schools teaching parental skills to parents

Many lament the fact that the family structure continues to fracture. In our conversation with Principal of St. Martin de Porres School, Anne Palacio, she said children are no longer being properly socialized from home as to what is socially acceptable.  Palacio said more often than that the burden falls on the school.

Anne Palacio – Principal of St. Martin’s de Porres

“The burden of us as educators is not only to educate our children, but we need now to educate our parents. Hence the reasons we have to have parental workshop so the education has to go with both parents and children, and I think that is one of the problems we are having because if parents would be our back-up more often you will see children being raised at a rate where principles are taught, where it is founded, where is grounded, where it is cemented so they understand their role. The education has a lot to play with the education of the children but it is a huge task.”

Palacio said that the school has parental workshops frequently to equip parents with the skills to raise a child.
