Search Continues for Missing 77-Year-Old Alicia Jacome in La Gracia Village

Family members and the authorities are actively searching for 77-year-old Alicia Jacome. Jacome was visiting her grandson from Guatemala at a farm in La Gracia Village in Cayo district. She was last seen on Saturday afternoon after eating lunch. According to Villeda, he woke up after taking a nap but could not see his grandmother. Around 2 pm he contacted the authorities, and a search party was organized. Village Chairman, Byron Ascension spoke about the effort that he has made to search for Jacome.

Byron Alcencio, Chairman, Buena Vista Cayo: Information I have gotten from the grandson so far is that on Friday around 12 o’clock right apparently there did some lunch soup, the lady – the one that just appeared laid on the hammock and was taking a nap right then for some reason everybody else fell asleep and whenever they woke up like around two o’clock they noticed that the lady was not there anymore and since there she has been missing and searches have been made since that day all along that evening, [[within the night too, but there’s no luck yet as yet. We haven’t found her. Then the following day they had communicated with me since Mr. Walter from La Gracia, it’s hard to get him because of this signal we don’t have there. So I communicated with the search team from Santa Elena, from Constapos, Mr. Alberto Palma, and his team, we went there on Saturday to do a next search in the morning, but we couldn’t find no leads of the lady, nothing that could help us to know where she has gone. So far there’s not been nothing, no leads or nothing since that day. Today this morning I went to Santa Elena and I took my time to pass by the BDF camp in Central Farm and went there to request for some assistance which they had offered me some couple soldiers to go by this evening after lunch. I’m actually waiting for them to call me and I have a couple people with me that will take with me to La Gracia this afternoon. And a team in La Gracia too on the farm where the lady was disappeared. So we’ll try our best to do a search today with the BDF soldiers and we’ll see if we could find any leads of the lady.

The farm is about 1000 acres of farmland, surrounded by bushes and creeks. According to the chairman, Jacome has Alzheimer’s disease and was seen earlier on that same day walking on a road that’s about 25 minutes away from the farm.

Byron Alcencio, Chairman, Buena Vista Cayo: “Information they have given me is that they came here to visit the grandson at that specific farm. She was accompanied with two grandchildren, two females, and one of them is in the farm at the moment with the grandson to itself. It was just for two of them that came from Guatemala to visit the grandson and that’s what happened that day. I mean, I guess they didn’t expect that. happen. But yes, she does suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and that’s the issue with the rhino that might just grab any way to go. That same morning, Friday, the owner of the farm, which is Mr. Clifford Savala, met her, I would say like 500 yards away from the house where they’re staying, that she has already went inside the woods right and he managed to take her back to the farm that same morning. So after they fell asleep, I guess she just decided to grab again and go. And that’s when what happened that they couldn’t find her anymore. There’s some creeks around there, like around on the side of the house where they’re staying and a lot of bushes, you know? But there’s an road about 1.5 miles. from the main road that goes to La Gracia, right? That’s an entrance they used to get to the farm, one, I would say one mile and a half. And then they also have a next, like a little road that goes to our next farm, which is about 25 minutes walk. And that’s the same little road that she was going towards when Mr. Sabala found he ron that morning. So we’re just probably thinking that she had that same way direction, but there also, there was a lot of little… I choose that and they used to like to put sticks and stuff. So probably she just went the wrong way and never come back. You know, we try our best to help assist the family in these hard times. And I know it’s really hard to be this in this position that to know that somebody comes to visit you. And apparently the lady hasn’t seen her grandson for almost seven years. I guess it’s a long time. And he’s very, very. I’m sad and depressed right now, not knowing that he could find his grandmother.”

Jacome is described as 5 feet tall with short grey hair, light brown eyes, and a clear complexion. She was last seen wearing a green and red patterned blouse, black shorts, and black flip flops.
