Police Constable Manuel Caliz attached to Ambergris Caye is one of the officers who has been infected with Covid-19. In a post on Facebook, PC Caliz seemed outraged at the situation on the island as he wrote, in part, quote, “Here in San Pedro, nobody cares about us being front line workers. We have family too and it would hurt my heart taking Covid to my two month old child. We at San Pedro Police Station should be setting standards and where is our standards?” End of quote. The media asked Superintendent Noble who is Caliz’ immediate boss, to comment on the social media post.
Chris Noble, Superintendent of Police: “Manuel is an officer attached to San Pedro and I saw the post as him trying to reach out to somebody for some sort of assistance. Manuel is a part of our program because of his condition. Now he does have other issues but I would advocate that you contact Manuel via the same page and have him give you his side of the story. As a matter of fact I just spoke to Manuel and the closest I can come to is that I was chastising him about behavior but that is not to say that everybody follows in the same. He has friends that he was out with that have tested positive including police officers and police officers that are a now symptomatic so whatever he posted, and like luck would have it I’m not privy to Facebook but I did get a screenshot of some information on it and I can’t say why he would have made the post. I can’t say what made him make the post I would want to guide you people toward the good gentleman and see what made him make that post because he has since been in isolation for about two days because he got back his results I believe yesterday and he’s still having some difficulties. Not to say difficulties departmentally, some of the issues that people put on Facebook let’s be real are personal and I would not want to get into any of that.”
Love News is following this story as we have attempted to contact PC Caliz but we were unsuccessful.
