Security guards at the Philip Goldson International Airport cargo compound in Ladyville were shot at as they foiled a burglary attempt early Sunday morning. Just before 1 o’clock, security guards on patrol at the eastern side of the fenced Terminal Cargo warehouse noticed suspicious activity a pair of shadows moving behind the structure. When they called out, warning the intruders to leave, one of the men opened fire. The shooter is described as slim built, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, and of dark complexion. The guards quickly took cover and attempted to pursue the suspects, but the men managed to escape through a breach in the chain-link fence on the southern side of the compound. This section faces the airport runway, offering an easy escape route. Police arrived shortly after but were unable to apprehend the suspects. We have come to understand that the airport is managed by a private security company. Love News spoke with Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, Kareem Musa, who indicated that it would possibly be in the best interest of the PGIA to get the police working there as well.

A search of the area turned up one expended 9-millimeter shell and one live round, as well as the damaged section of the fence. No one was injured during the incident, and police continue to investigate.
