And, in Seine Bight Village, eighteen people were left displaced after a major house fire burnt five houses early in the morning last Monday. Since the incident occurred, the police and the National Fire Service have been conducting a series of investigations into the cause of the blaze. Area Representative, Minister Rodwell Ferguson, has been providing humanitarian assistance to bring back a semblance of normalcy to the family. Minister Ferguson has partnered with the President and Secretary of the District Association of Village Councils (DAVCO) Vincent Scott and Kimara Montes to visit the family.
Rodwell Ferguson, Area Rep. Stann Creek West: “I came back from Jamaica on Saturday and I called them when I was in Jamaica and I told them as I come back I’ll visit the family. Two houses completely destroyed by fire and I did my small contribution. As a matter of fact last night we had a meeting with the Garifuna nation in the United States and today I want to tell you how you can raise funds to help rebuild back their houses as quickly as possible but the community is outpouring, they’re getting tremendous support and when you return there maybe two or three months you’ll see where we help them to rebuild their homes.”
