The first official sitting of the Senate under this new term of Government was held today within the chambers of the National Assembly. Six new senators were making their debut in this sitting, namely, Pastor Ashley Rocke, Macario Coy, Dr Carla Barnett, Aldo Salazar, Francine Burns and Stephen Duncan with the notable absence of a representative for the unions. Today’s meeting agenda saw the Bill brought from the House of Representatives on the General Revenue Supplementary Appropriation 2015/2016. In addition, there were seventeen motions presented; among them were the OPEC Fund for international development for the reconstruction of the Hummingbird Highway which came under heavy criticism by Senators Mark Lizarraga and Patrick Andrews; also tabled was the Inter-American Development Band, Sustainable Tourism Program fifteen thousand dollar loan motion. Following the presentation of the motions and a closed session of the Senate, Senator Lisa Shoman made a motion for the Senate to institute and conduct and enquiry and investigation in relation to the Ministries of Immigration and National Security.
