Senators today ratified a motion in support of the Republic of China Taiwan. The motion supports Taiwan’s participation in international organizations. This year marks thirty-three years of diplomatic ties between Belize and Taiwan. For these 33 years of friendship, Belize and Taiwan have continuously supported and helped each other and closely cooperated in numerous areas. Senator for Government Business Eamon Courtenay says that Taiwan is a faithful ally and development partner to Belize, and the generosity and contribution Taiwan made to other countries have shown Taiwan is an indispensable part of the global community.
Senator Eamon Courtenay: “We had the motion of support for Taiwan. You know that we have very strong relationships with Taiwan and we called for their inclusion in the United Nations and all international agencies. I think the issue is that there is at least one country, powerful country that opposes Taiwan’s inclusion in the United Nations and other international organizations and we have tried to persuade other countries to join us and I think most countries in the world support Taiwan’s inclusion. But there is the difficulty of China.”
