Senators were in session today in Belmopan debating the budget for the fiscal year 2020/2021.  The budget was passed through the House of Representatives last week with no lively debate as has been the tradition.  Prime Minister Barrow noted that due to the current COVID-19 response, there was no time for the back and forth as the House also had to approve several Bills including the twenty-five million dollars earmarked for public aid.  Today’s Senate meeting began just after eleven o’clock and saw PUP Senator, Michel Chebat criticize the budget for the Ministries of Fisheries among others.

During the debate, Senator Chebat also called on the Government to implement aid immediately as many have already lost their source of income.

Also speaking on the COVID-19 situation in this morning’s Senate meeting was Mark Lizarraga who represents the private sector.
