Police investigations continue into the murder of Canadian National who was found dead inside his home just off the Melinda Road on Tuesday. We join Reporter, Vejea Alvarez for additional details into this crime.

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: On Tuesday morning the dead body of 60-year-old Jeffrey Richard Lewis was found inside his home off the Melinda Road in Dangriga Town. The Canadian retiree was left for dead and by the time police discovered his body Lewis was already in an advanced state of decomposition. Senior Superintendent of Police Hilberto Romero says police also found the main entrance for Lewis’ home slightly opened.”

Sr.Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Upon their arrival police observed that the door to the house was slightly opened and inside they found the decomposed body of a male person. That male person was identified as Richard Jeffery, 60 years Canadian national of the said address. Investigation is that he lives alone and someone tried to get in touch with him and when they could not they visited the house and found his body inside the house.”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: Lewis was living here in Belize for over the past ten years and lived alone. But according to one of his friends from the area he had recently returned to Canada to visit his family and was excited to show them his new home in Belize.

Friend: “Speaking to him the last time about his last trip he gave us story about his family members and how he was happy to be with them.

Harry Arzu, Stann Creek Correspondent: In Canada ?

Friend: “In Canada yeah and how he was looking forward to them coming to Belize for the first time so they could come and meet his friends and stuff like that. He was a nice person.”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: According to preliminary reports by police Lewis’ killer or killers had tied both of his hands in front of him and placed a rope and a blanket over this face. However ASP Romero says that until police receives the results of his post mortem the case is not being labelled as murder.

Sr.Supt. Hilberto Romero, Deputy Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch: “We are presently conducting an investigation. We have recovered some evidence from the scene and investigators are looking into that. He was observed with an injury to the body yes that is correct and he was seen three days prior.”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: And while investigators continue to search for a possible motive Lewis’ friends says she simply wants justice for the slain senior citizen.

Friend: “It’s just sad and you know it’s one good soul lost to whole of Dangriga because he was a friend to everybody in Dangriga. He has no children, he’s just a loving soul so whoever did this we ask and we pray to God that they have justice for Rick. This is just too much happening now in Dangriga.”
