Senior Courts Launch Initiative for Alternative Dispute Resolutions

The Office of The Honourable Chief Justice Louise Esther Blenman has announced that the Senior Courts of Belize have embarked on a nationwide drive to resuscitate Court-Connected Mediation and Court-Connected Arbitration in Belize. A release issued yesterday noted that the National Mediation Committee has been re-energized and restructured into the National Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee. The purpose of the committee is to enhance access to justice through affordable settlements of disputes, as it complements the full trials. It is being co-chaired by Justices Michelle Arana, Martha Alexander, and Candace Nanton.  The committee’s membership is comprised of key stakeholders in education, law, media, management, religion, and medicine who bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the table.
