Four persons, three adults and a minor, charged with drug trafficking for seven hundred and seventy two point six grams of cannabis, were acquitted of the charge today in the court of Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser. They are Candice Castillo, Kareem Eagan, Kendra Smith and a boy who was 15 years old at the time. The incident occurred on December 26, 2012. The police, members of the Anti-Drug Unit, went to a residence, located at Set Site, which had two houses in the yard. When they searched underneath one of the houses they found a pig tail bucket filled with cannabis. Castillo and Eagan, a common-law couple, lived in one of the houses, but not the one under which the cannabis was found. Castillo’s mother, who lived in the house under which the cannabis was found, was not at home at the time. Smith, who does not reside at the premises, had gone to Castillo’s house to get her hair braided. The premises was fenced only on two sides. There was no fence at the front or the back of it. Senior Magistrate Fraser ruled that there was no evidence to link any of them to the drugs. She said that there was not sufficient evidence to prove that they alone had access to the premises. The court had visited the scene.
