Over one hundred tablets were stolen from a high school in Belize City. Police have been following leads and were able to recover more than half of the stolen goods. Senior Superintendent Alejandro Cowo spoke on the investigation.
Alejandro Cowo, Senior Superintendent of Police: “Upon police arrival they observed one of the classrooms where a number of laptops and other computer equipment were stored and upon the principal making a thorough check on the inventory they noted that ninety-six tablets were missing, these were the same tablets that were issued previously by the Ministry of Education to the different high schools. As a result police conducted an investigation into this matter so far fifty six tablets have been recovered and a female by the name of Leena Gabourel was arrested and charged for handling stolen goods. We know that they have a security that is working there during the entire night, he was questioned and we suspect that it could have been some inside job as to where these laptops were and because we were made to understand that they were recently taken to the school there. All of them they were still originally in the box they came from, one box, and the police camera is showing us that a group of male persons exited and they were walking in that area with bags in their hands we suspect the tablets were inside of the bags they were holding when they came out of the place. Three were recovered with the female and sixteen were recovered at an abandoned house and thirty five more were found within the school.”
