Two shooting incidents were reported this weekend. The first occurred on Friday evening. Police say after six o’clock they went to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they saw 31-year-old Eletero McKenzie suffering from gunshot wounds to the right calf and to the right shin. Police say McKenzie was standing behind the fence of an unknown alley off Amara Avenue when he saw two unknown male persons approaching him on separate bicycles. One of them pulled out a firearm and pointed it at him. Fearing for his life, Mckenzie reportedly started running into the alley towards his house when he heard several shots being fired and realized he had been shot. McKenzie was admitted to ward in a stable condition. In the second incident, on Saturday morning just after eleven thirty, police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they saw 30-year-old Jovanie Sutherland of Belize City suffering from a gunshot wound to the right leg. Sutherland was reportedly rolling a hose from his septic cleaning truck along with his co-worker when he was approached by two male persons, one of whom was armed with a handgun who pointed it towards him and demanded his gold chain valued at one thousand eight hundred dollars. Fearing his life Jovanie began to take off his chain and in the process of doing so, the male person shot him. The other person then took possession of the chain and they both escaped.
