Yesterday, the Rotary Club of Belmopan sent a cohort of seven Belizean children to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. This initiative is part of the Belize Children’s Project, which has supported over 455 Belizean children since its inception in 1972. The program focuses on critical orthopedic conditions, including scoliosis, clubfoot, and limb differences. This effort stems from a long-standing and transformative partnership between Shriner’s Children’s Hospital and Rotary District 6510 in Illinois. Love News spoke with Rotarian of the Rotary Club of Belmopan, Erwin Wills, about bringing awareness to the initiative.
Through the Belize Children’s Project, the Rotary Club of Belmopan organizes annual screening clinics aimed at identifying and assessing children in need of medical intervention. Once enrolled in the program, support for these children continues up to the age of eighteen, ensuring they receive the necessary care throughout their development. Wills expressed their vision for this project.
From this cohort, 15 children were admitted for treatment, with additional children slated to travel for medical care in early 2025.
