As authorities continue to roll out interventions to stem the recent spike in gun violence in Belize City, one resident is launching an initiative aimed at promoting peace through the sport of billiards. Earl Clare, President of the Belize Billiards Sporting League (BBSL), is launching the “Shoot Pool Instead of Guns” campaign and is calling on billiards players and the private sector to join in. The initiative seeks to positively impact through teaching the sport of billiards, the values of the sport, and pairing them off with billiards players who will serve as mentors in the sport and in life. Clare says that after the deaths of Evadnie and Luke Jones, he felt compelled to make an effort to help bring about positive change.
Clare says that he has already gotten commitments from several billiards players from across the country, who will serve as mentors for the youths.
