Shooting Incident Reported in Libertad Following Commissioner of Police’s Visit

Last night there was a shooting incident in Libertad hours after the Commissioner of Police visited the Corozal District in the wake of Kurtis Usher’s murder. Just before 11 o’clock, a man wielding a high-power rifle indiscriminately opened fire on the home of 32-year-old Wilbert Henry, a Border management employee, firing up to 30 shots. Henry told police that he was inside with his wife and two children when they were awakened by the sound of rapid gunfire. Henry says they threw themselves to the floor and waited for the gunman to cease his attack. The family then got into their bullet-riddled pickup truck and headed to a family member’s home. Henry says he wasn’t able to see anyone fleeing the scene. Police canvassed the area and found thirty expended .223 shells.
