Several press statements were released today, expressing full confidence in Prime Minister John Briceno. The statements come at a time when a motion of no-confidence by the Leader of the Opposition is expected to be tabled in Friday’s House Meeting. All arms of the People’s United Party sent out a release with unanimous support for the Prime Minister, as well as the collective Cabinet, the National Executive and the Western and Eastern Caucus. Opposition Leader Moses Barrow filed the motion on August 1, and had expressed hope that some of Briceno’s Cabinet Minister would join him in his motion. Prime Minister Briceno dismissed Barrow’s claims last Friday, while Minister Francis Fonseca ridiculed the idea of no-confidence.

The press statements of full confidence in Briceno came from the United Women’s Group, the Belize Youth Movement, the Order of Distinguished Services, the National Executive, the Cabinet and the Marshalls’ Community Service Corp. Additionally, all members of the Briceno Cabinet have endorsed the statement, which essentially notes, “As a true servant of our people, our Prime Minister has remained steadfast in his commitment to bring hope and opportunity to the people of Belize. The stellar performance of our real economy demonstrates the realization of our Prime Minister’s vision ….” End of quote. The National Executive of the PUP has also agreed with a statement indicating, quote, “As the leading political party in Belize, the PUP stands united in recognizing the exceptional leadership, dedication, and vision demonstrated by our esteemed Prime Minister. Under the guidance of Honourable John Briceño, our nation has witnessed unprecedented progress in various sectors, including the economy, infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and social welfare.” End of quote.
