The Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) today marked Census Day and data collection for the Population and Housing Census starts tomorrow. This process should last approximately ten weeks. Over five hundred field staff will be deployed across the nation, obtaining information from all households, businesses and institutions. Love News spoke with SIB’s acting Director-General, Diana Castillo-Trejo, who explained that the data collected is critical for the government to plan for the next ten years and create effective strategies to promote the development of the country.
The last Census in Belize was carried out in 2010. A census was scheduled to be conducted last year, however, it was postponed due to Covid-19 infections.
