Silk Grass Resident Battles Bureaucracy to Receive Court-Awarded Settlement

A resident of Silk Grass Village, Stann Creek District, is furious after trying for weeks to collect money that should have been deposited into his credit union account.  Fifty-six-year-old Clezant Daley, says that he won a civil claim and the money awarded to him was paid to the Magistrate’s Court, which was then paid to the Treasury Department. The settlement was to be made in two payments, one of which Daley received, but the other he has not, and he has been visiting the Treasury Department and St. John’s Credit Union several times for the past two weeks, trying to get his money.

Daley says that he has to travel seventeen miles every time he tries to collect his money and is hoping that someone in authority can step in and resolve the situation.
