On Friday 23-year-old Olga Galdamez was taken to court and denied bail after she was caught illegally crossing into Belize in April. Galdamez is a Guatemalan who was placed in quarantine but later escaped. She was then caught in Benque Viejo Del Carmen, Cayo District. Love News spoke with the sister of Galdamez, Ruby Gamez, who stated that Olga was not caught entering illegally into the country because she was at her house when she was detained. According to Gamez she believes that her sister is being discriminated against and is being treated unfairly. Here is what she has to say about the day her sister was detained and what occurred.
Olga Galdamez, Sister: “I will explain how everything went down. We were all outside in the yard playing with my son when a police officer passed the house. Five minutes later the same police officer came back to my house demanding me to hand over my child. I said “How do you expect me to hand over my child?” She tried to take him away from me but I did not let her. She then entered my house trying to take him away from me and even scratched me. My sister got up and told her “Why are you trying to come in my house and cause problems with my sister.” From there my father came out to see what was happening and they arrested him. Fifteen minutes later two cars filled with soldiers arrived and entered the home and started mistreating and kicking everyone. My mom had a swollen foot. I don’t know why they came and discriminated against my sister. I have the proof of everything because I haven’t posted it on social media because it’s before the courts. What they’re doing to my sister is very unjust.”
Olga Galdamez was remanded to the Belize Central Prison by Justice Colin Williams.
