Six Belizean Nurses Graduate from Taiwan’s 18-Month Training Program

While the country commemorates Nurses Week, six Belizean nurses have successfully completed an 18-month special training course in Taiwan. Commencement exercises were held today at Chi Mei Medical Center, for the nurses completing the program. Among them were Belizeans Kendra Denise Betancourt, Karla Jamileth Padilla Bradley, Karina Mortis, Marisely Clotilde Juchim, Renan Romuald Chavarria, and Teona Leopolda Ruiz. Chief Nursing Officer for the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Lizett Bell, says that the nurses were sent to Taiwan to study as part of an incentive package for nurses to remain in Belize instead of taking their services abroad.

Bell added that there is also currently a cohort of nurses in Jamaica working on their master’s degrees. They should be finished later this year.
