Police have arrested and charged seven persons, including a minor, after they were seen at a bar in Libertad Village, Corozal District. The incident occurred at 8pm on Saturday. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvett, these persons were not respecting the measures set out by the Prime Minister on social distancing as well as on the closure of bars.
ACP Joseph Myvette, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “They observed several persons congregating closely and drinking. As a result those persons were spoken to and they were learnt to be Isiah Sedacey 26 years, Jose Velasquez 42 years, Jose Chan 18 years, Eugene Fuentes 21 years, Jeremy Martinez 39 years and a 17 year old minor who were all detained along with the bar owner one Jose Quintanilla who is 50 years old. Those persons with the exception of Jose Quintanilla was charged for failing to comply with social distancing whilst Quintanilla was charged for refusing to close liquor establishments when required to do so by the act. There have been several releases from the committee at this point in time which has been made public where they were urging the social distancing of persons that need to be at least three feet apart as well as other issues in relation to that being gatherings so hence the reason we are conducting those investigations and there have been a number of information coming to the police in relation to these issues where the police are responding to and charges are being instituted against those persons.”
