A man has been charged with murder in the case of Salvador Amaya Rivas. Rivas was killed in San Roman Village, Stann Creek District on Tuesday, January 11. After a day of investigations, Police arrested and charged 23-year-old, Olvin Rivas for the homicide. Olvin Rivas is the son of the victim and best reports to our newsroom say that the incident stemmed from a case of a domestic disturbance. Reports say that early Tuesday morning Salvador Rivas went to Olvin’s residence in the village. Salvador was left to sleep in the kitchen, which is a separate house from the main dwelling area. At around four the following morning, Salvador Rivas woke up and forced open the door of the adjoining house. He reportedly woke up his son, Salvador Jr. and began choking him. It was at that point where Olvin Rivas intervened with a machete. Upon seeing this, Salvador Rivas ran out of the house heading towards the main road leading to the highway where a chase ensued. Olvin caught up with Salvador and chopped him multiple times to the head and body.
