There is a lot of political news to report tonight including the return of former UDP Leader Patrick Faber, but before we get to that, tonight we bring you a tragic incident that claimed the life of a man. A barge capsized off the coast of Placencia which led to his death. Construction supplies, an excavator, and a loader remain at the bottom of the sea. According to reports, three persons were on board the barge carrying construction supplies near Harvest Caye when the vessel capsized. The incident occurred sometime after 1 p.m. yesterday while the barge was being push-towed by another vessel and resulted in the death of one man. Commissioner of the Belize Port Authorities, Major H Gilbert Swaso, shared more information and stated that the BPA has since launched an investigation into the matter.
Major Swaso further stated that the incident could have been far worse and reminded mariners of the dangers of the sea particularly when the weather conditions are not ideal.
Swaso added that BPA has ensured that the channel leading to the Big Creek Port is clear for cargo ships to dock.
