Things got heated during the budget debate leading to a proper scolding from the Speaker of the House and the calling on the mace bearer. All this was followed by some accusations of theft, criminal behavior and other unparliamentary statements, particularly, from the Leader of the Opposition. The matter resorted to Speaker Woods having to stand, suspend the budget debate to review the recording where the statements were hurled. Fort George Area Representative, Henry Charles Usher was making his budget presentation when Barrow rose to make a point of order and from there…well, it all went downhill:
The very frustrated House Speaker reviewed the recording and decided that both Opposition Leader Moses Shyne Barrow and Orange Walk South Area Representative Jose Mai were our order and asked that they withdraw the statements.
The former Prime Minister, Said Musa, though charged with theft, was never convicted. He was acquitted.
