Speaker of the House, Valerie Woods is on a mission to improve the operations and aesthetics of the National Assembly. Under her leadership, the National Assembly has gotten funds from the Taiwan Government to pursue several projects in the pipeline.
Valerie Woods, Speaker Of the House: “On October 9th the National Assembly building marked its 53rd year since its inauguration in 1970. I take the opportunity to inform all members that one of the initiatives we at the National Assembly have been working on since assuming office is a project grant proposal to the Government of the Republic of China Taiwan on renovation works of this National Assembly. I am pleased to announce that we received the news that the grant request has been approved for $1,584,250 Belize dollars. This would be the first major renovation, and which I’m sure members, the visiting public, the media, and invited guests will attest is much needed. There will be an official ceremony for the record of donation on November 7th and further details on extent of works, implementation, timeline, and all other attendant issues will be had at that time in full gratitude and recognition of this grant.”
The funding from the Taiwanese amounts to just over one point five million Belize dollars.
