The police have recovered 52 pounds of cocaine on the north end of the Ambergris caye on the 17th of March. Usually wet drops are accompanied by waves of violence and while the violence may not be related, this month alone, three San Pedro residents have been murdered. In the DFC Area, 19 year old Horace Cadle was stabbed late one night on Blake Street on the 13th and on Thursday two San Pedro residents were killed at 1:30 p.m. 34 year old Allen “Spoon” Martinez and 40 year old Deon Faber were gunned down in the Boca Del Rio area of San Pedro Town. The men were socializing at Faber’s home in an area behind a welding shop when the incident occurred. Martinez sat inside the building while Faber was outside. Residents say Faber bolted into his home and yelled “gunman” which preceded a barrage of shots. Faber received multiple wounds to the chest, back and forearm when he entered a bedroom and collapsed. Allen Spoon Martinez, who was in the kitchen, was hit to the shoulder and neck where he collapsed. Sources say the incident happened shortly after a drug sale. 7 nine millimetre slugs were found on the scene. Ambergris Caye is one of the country’s top tourism destinations and it is yet unclear how the high profile violent crimes will affect that tourism product.
