Yesterday we reported on the more than one hundred thousand dollars donation given in the last quarter of 2024. For a further look into the donations, our newsroom spoke to the CEO of the Social Security Board (SSB) on the breakdown of their donation threshold. According to the SSB’s CEO, Dr Leroy Almendarez, these funds were sourced from the Board’s Investment Fund surplus under the Social Development Assistance Grants program.
Dr. Almendarez clarified that despite popular assumption, these funds do not prevent SSB contributors to not be able to access their funds in the event of an emergency. It is not the direct contributions of individuals that goes towards these donations, it is simply a surplus.
Over $76,000, went towards medical assistance. Education also received a boost, with over $11,000 allocated to various school projects. Furthermore, the SSB contributed over $21,000 to community events while the sports sector received over $8,000 in donations.
