SSB Confirms an Increase in Contributions Come 2022

Tonight, the Social Security Board has announced that indeed, come 2022, workers will see a one-percent increase in weekly contributions. However, instead of the January 3 start date, Cabinet has announced a postponement to April 1 when the new financial year starts. The SSB said in a statement that the decision to increase both contributions and benefits was as a result of eighteen months of consultations beginning in 2017. The increase, which again comes into effect in April, is the final phase of reforms. As a result, when a contributor goes on leave – sickness or maternity, for example — the most he/she would be able to receive weekly is five hundred and twenty dollars, an increase from the current four hundred and eighty dollars. Payments made by SSB are calculated based on salary and income.
