SSB Enhances Services: Digitization and Service Improvements Rolled Out

The Social Security Board (SSB) has improved several of its services and wants to enhance the public’s perceptions of its everyday roles. The board has digitized many of its services through its online self-service portal, which has many features, including being able to access your contribution history. The board has also made major changes to its cards, from shortening the wait time to removing an expiry date. SSB CEO Deborah Ruiz spoke about the board’s push toward improving its overall services and the public’s view of the SSB.

Deborah Ruiz, CEO, Social Security Board: “This is a new strategy of ours in order to deal with our objective of being transparent and of course to share information with the media. I know normally customers who have complaints the media is usually the first person they go to so that you have the right information in terms of how your Social Security operates so that you can assist us in your newscasts and whatever medium you use to give the right information or in fact give the persons we have shared with your our service channels to refer them to the channels that they can get the correct information to get their matter settled. I think it’s vital that we have the media on board in terms of appreciating the work that Social Security does in terms of addressing the social protection needs of the citizenry of Belize. Social Insurance is a vital pillar of the whole social protection system. As you know we have been working this past year on a national social protection strategy. It is key that people appreciate the value that social insurance can bring to them and for them to understand that the contribution that they make, that the Social Security Board is making investment so as to minimize the need to go back to them for any contribution increase and still being able to pay a benefit that can satisfy the income replacement needs in the future when they need it.”

Ruiz encourages all contributors to register for the online self-service portal.
