This morning the Belize Police Department released official information related to the death of Santa Rosa Village resident, 25-year-old, Anacleto Villanueva. Villanueva died on the evening of Tuesday, October 19; eleven days after he was brutally beaten by a group of men in the same village. Investigators are treating the matter as a ‘death investigation’ and say that Villanueva died at the Southern Regional Hospital after experiencing trouble breathing. He was diagnosed with COVID-19 hours before he died. However, according to police, doctors are unable to determine if he died of Covid-19 or injuries he received from the fight. His body now lies at the morgue for a post-mortem examination. Hipolito Novelo has more on this story.
