A man lost his life in southern Belize yesterday after a tractor crushed him in a freak accident. We join Correspondent Harry Arzu for the story.
42-year-old Juan Timoteo Garcia was pronounced dead at the Southern Regional Hospital as a result of severe injuries he sustained from an accident. Reports here say that Garcia was driving a tractor in an orchard yesterday evening and did not arrive at his headquarters at the expected time. As a result a search for Garcia was launched. Superintendent Gerald Jones tells us more.
Superintendent Gerald Jones: “Initial investigation revealed that at about 3:00 to 3:30 P.M Mr.Wilbur Daniels, supervisor of the company got worried about the whereabouts of Mr.Garcia as he did not return for the day. Upon making checks he observed that the tractor was leaning on and saw Mr.Garcia underneath the rear tire unresponsive. He was then rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:05 P.M. The scene was processed by the Scenes of Crimes personnel and the body now awaits a post mortem examination. The matter is still under investigation at this time by the police.”
