While the police have been able to ascertain a motive in Garcia’s murder, they continue to search for clues in the killing of 27-year-old Byron Herrera. In December last year, Herrera was shot nineteen times as he stood inside his yard on San Francisco Street in Orange Walk Town. Police so far have not been able to detain or arrest anyone for the crime but believe that it may have been connected to a previous shooting incident in that municipality. However, Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, says that they are various angles the police are probing into.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “We have received a number of information and as I said to you all last week that there are certain things that we do during the investigation that we’ll never be able to divulge. And so I’m not gonna confirm or deny that information but police did receive a number of leads that we’re still exploring to be able to see if we’ll be able to solve that murder in Orange Walk Town.”
Reporter: Are you anticipating anyone else to be targeted due to the initial crime that is believed to have sparked his death ?
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Well we always ensure that we expect the unexpected and once there is a death that is either drug or gang related we always anticipate that there’s going to be some retaliation and we would always put contingency in place to try and avert that. Mind it though at times it may still occur but we must do what we can to prevent these retaliations from occurring.”
