The water board issue in Maya Centre Village remains unresolved, officially. As we have been reporting, residents want the current water board chairman, Benedicto Choc, to stay on the job. It was during his tenure that the water board saw significant savings. However, the village council changed, and they want to appoint a new water board chairman in the person of Orlando Bolon. Bolon is the brother of the village council chairman. It appears that not only did the residents want Choc to stay on, but they were also demanding transparency and accountability, which had not been afforded to them before Choc’s tenure. During a meeting with the villagers, Area Representative Rodwell Ferguson told the villagers that the law was broken in 2021 when the minister appointed the new water board. He conceded to the villagers’ demands, telling them that the current composition of the water board will remain in place. However, the villagers are still waiting for an official letter from the government. This morning we asked Ferguson for an update.
