Stolen Hospital Vehicle Recovered in Guatemala, Minister Commends Police

Police have recovered a Toyota Hilux pickup truck that was stolen from the Western Regional Hospital last night and taken into neighboring Guatemala. Around midnight, the hospital’s security guard observed a man and a minor leaving the compound in the vehicle. However, it was not until this morning that the hospital’s assigned driver realized it was missing. Investigators activated the truck’s GPS, and traced its location to Flores, Peten, Guatemala. Belize’s authorities were able to work with their counterparts in Guatemala and had the vehicle returned to Belize. This evening, Minister of Home Affairs, Kareem Musa, commended the quick response by Police.

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs: “Very brief information I have. I don’t have the full details of it but I am aware that our police department acted swiftly with our counterparts in Guatemala and we will be getting that vehicle back.”

Reporter: Do you know how they managed to steal it from the hospital ?

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs: “I don’t know the particulars of the theft no. I believe it was last night.”

In recent years, Belize has seen an increase in vehicle theft, particularly pickup trucks.  Love News understands that these types of vehicles carry a hefty price tag over in Guatemala.
