Stolen Sweater Leads to Charges Against Two Belize City Men

A stolen sweater valued at fifteen dollars set the events in motion that landed two Belize City men behind bars at the Belize Central Prison. Deon Jones and Eric Tillett both appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, charged with handling stolen goods. Jones, was first to appear in court where he immediately pleaded guilty and was fined a hundred dollars. During his appearance, the Magistrate informed him that he had unpaid court fines of over a thousand dollars. Tillett pleaded guilty and was fined two hundred dollars but also had outstanding fines. Both men were unable to make any payments towards their fines and a warrant was issued for them to serve out their outstanding fines as prison time.
