The National Trade Congress Union of Belize has accepted the National Student Union of Belize as a member of the NTUCB. On August 5 the Student union sent a letter to the NTUCB expressing their interest in becoming a member of the NTUCB. The Student union was created at the University of Belize Belmopan campus and represents tertiary students across Belize. The NTUCB’s executive committee reviewed the request and accepted the NSUB as an honorary member. Today we spoke with the President of the Student Union, Kevin Chen who told us about their goals moving forward.
Kevin Chen, President, National Student Union of Belize: “We strive to promote the quality of student life and the quality of their education at their respective institutions. We welcomed the news and we’re all very very happy and speaking with respect to my executive council we’ve had this strong feeling of accomplishment. We’re also grateful to the NTUCB for this opportunity to represent our members on their platform. We saw the need for a student led organization that provides all tertiary students of Belize with a forum to exchange their views and ideas and by exchanging their views and ideas they can contribute to the development and the improvement of the quality of tertiary education in Belize and that is the sole purpose of the National Student Union of Belize and that is the reason why it was created.”
Becoming an honorary member gives the student union every right under the constitution with exception of voting.
