Stakeholders of the sugar industry recently decided on the end date for the 2021/2022 sugar cane crop season. That date is Friday, July 29 and after the last cane truck makes the final delivery, BSI/ASR will need about five to six months to carry out maintenance work for the new crop season. Negotiations were had with farmers because the mill wanted to cut delivery on January 24 to allow enough time to liquidate the factory. Cane Farmer Relations at BSI Olivia Carballo Avilez explained:
Carballo-Avilez says that because of several factors there will be some ‘stand-over’ cane which an estimation of between fifty-sixty tons.
It is expected that for the next crop season, the grinding rate will improve once the two boilers are operational.
