Today, ASR BSI issued a press release on the conclusion of the sugarcane production season. The release highlighted prominent factors that hindered the production of  the crop for this sugar season. The  release addressed the slow start to the season as a consequence of severe drought along with the varying inconsistencies in output metric tons of cane from last year compared to this year. Compounding this is the devastating blow of Covd-19 along with seasonal pests and the spike in flooding at the tail end of the season. Cane Farmer Relations Manager, Olivia Avilez expressed her intent in aggressively seeking an climate resilient alternative for the upcoming season to deter some of the issues that were felt in full force during this past season. The release ends in Belize Sugar Industries (BSI) thanking all four farmers’ associations, its employees, and other industry stakeholders who quote ‘ worked steadily despite the many challenges to end the crop as smoothly as possible.’ end quote.
